Apple PenLite: The iPad Before the iPad!
Many regard Apple's Newton PDA from 1993 as the company's first foray into touchscreen computing. It turns out that the company had even greater ambitions -- but the project met an unfortunate fate just at the last minute.

    It's funny... The part where Tom describes how they developed styluses for the Scribe, where they'd have different nibs for various textures and so on... That is exactly what the Apple Pencil of the modern day is missing! I don't want to have a nasty plastic screen protector that wears out in 6 months for a "paper feel". They came close with the new iPad Pro that has an anti-glare glass, but that iPad is very, very expensive. As an illustrator who uses an iPad and Apple Pencil as my main art tool, I was so excited when they refreshed the Apple Pencil this year. But the one thing I was hoping to see never showed up. Turns out the feature I wanted from Apple was made about 3 decades ago. Thanks Collin for this excellent look behind the scenes at Apple!

    I highly disagree that it was golden era for being a computer fan. The worst part was the speed of development. Your brand new expensive PC was turning into pile of electrojunk within just 2 years. I remember that to be able to play new games in more than 15 fps on low you had to replace GPU that often.

    • @TapChanek
      @TapChanek 11 часов назад

      Currently I still use 7 year old GTX 1070 and although I wouldn't run newest games on high with 60 fps I can still do it on at least medium graphics. Impossible scenario back then.

    Bose makes equipment that enables music lovers to better or more easily enjoy their music. Audiophiles buy equipment that enables themselves to feel superior. Audiophiles are not interested in music, they're interested in boosting their own egos by discrediting others. Their beliefs about their equipment are deluded. They are the dregs of society.

    my family was 100% bought into CDs so i only ever had my music on that format until i got into vinyl records with my hifi system. i’d never even seen a minidisc outside of pictures from the internet or a magazine or something. i’ve got a sony head unit that can play minidiscs as well as CDs (but no minidiscs themselves). i’d love to get a minidisc walkman one day so i can change that, but for all intents and purposes my CD collection is serving me just fine lol.

    16:45 In this part of the 1990s it felt like futuristic computer technology was just around the corner. Any computer design we saw in sci-fi movies was not only possible, but Apple was already building it. It was continually exciting! The feeling didn't last, but it was a wonderful shared experience of technological optimism.

    Two years ago I bought a Yaoin MS-23S Phono amp. It is a true tube (valve) phono stage amplifier. I use a Denon 103C Moving Coil cartridge in a Dynavector tone arm. Actually found it on Amazon a few years ago. The sound is exactly what wanted, very musical, but quite dynamic as well as having accurate reproduction. I did find it was mandatory to ground the chassis. Those who have heard it have been impressed as it has a quiet background. I have used it with a Shure V15 and a Grado cartridge with similar results! As I remember it cost $130.00 and it is a bargain. It uses two large transformers one for each channel and “rolling” tunes does make a difference especially with old Mullard, Telefunken and GEC tubes. It is musical and listenable.
